Once upon a waterfall

We explored Wadi Shab in Oman and it felt like stepping into another world! We have seen many wadi’s so far and all of them are unique and beautiful but this one felt like a real adventure.

Our journey took us through dramatic canyon walls, extremely clear turquoise pools, and hidden caves — a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility. The views were stunning! Swimming between the rocks and hiking under the sun – we just enjoyed every moment!

For those unfamiliar, a wadi is a dry riverbed that fills with water during seasonal rains. In Oman, many wadis hold water year-round, creating stunning natural pools and lush pockets of greenery in the middle of an otherwise arid landscape. They’ve been essential to life here for centuries, providing water, shade, and a place to gather.

Wadi Shab is one of the most famous, and for good reason — it offers an incredible combination of hiking, swimming, and exploration, including a hidden cave with a waterfall inside if you’re up for the swim. It was definitely not a stroll in the parc, but a welcome physical challenge. Getting to the cave was only 3km one way, but the whole way you are either climbing or swimming in deep waters. It was amazing to see how the kids just kept going, never complained and really enjoy themselves!

If you ever find yourself in Oman, we can definitely recommend this experience. Go early to avoid crowds (preferably start before 10am), bring good shoes (we hiked on our water shoes which was very convenient and comfortable), wear slightly modest swimwear and bring sunscreen, water, and a sense of adventure! Enjoy!
