Once upon some traditional horseman

16th April 2026

We got a location and a date from a random stranger we met on the beach for ‘something cool with horses’. That’s all we knew. No information, no clue, just a pin in the middle of nowhere on google maps. Would you go?

If anything, we have learned so far while traveling that these things are usually worth it to say yes to. In fact, almost all our best and most random things happened because we said yes without knowing what we were saying yes to.

And boy was it worth it! We parked our truck between a chaos of horses and cars. Before we knew it we witnessed a very traditional horse event, to celebrate the end of the racing season. Horse riding is deeply rooted in Omani culture and goes back for centuries. For many Omani people, their horses are more important and valuable to them than their cars (which says a lot!). Many learn to ride almost before they can walk.

The best thing was that this event wasn’t about winning or giving perfect performances. It was about having fun together, celebrating, cheering each other on and supporting everyone who wanted to join in. Young, old, advanced or not yet. The energy around the whole event was absolutely amazing. Just like the tricks they did on the horses, we were absolutely impressed! New challenge unlocked?
