Once upon a truck on a ship

20th May 2026

This part was SCARY! Our big mission finally started. First step, delivering the truck to the harbor in Salalah! We prepared as much as we could but were not sure when we had to be there. And then suddenly a text. ‘We want to see you in 10 minutes’. Whoops, can we even make it? Let’s roll!

Then came the scary part. We have to ship by flatrack which is like an open container, since we obviously do not fit inside one. Driving on to the flatrack was easy. But then they had to lift the whole thing including our truck in to the air and on to the truck. We admit… having all we have, our home, our things, our everything, dangling in the air, 9tons+… it was super scary. It asked a lot of trusting the people and the process. Telling ourselves we are not the first ones doing this.

Then came the even scarier part. The truck driving to the docks. Springing in its suspension with every little bump in the road. It was intens. We drove behind it for a while but quickly went on…After the paperwork we had to let go and trust we will see our home again in one piece in Africa!

So now we focus on what we can do. Driving to Muscat, finally finding a solution to bring the cats to Kenya and then making sure all of us are at the right moment at the other side of the ocean. After collecting the truck we will drive down to South Africa, taking our time, probably at least one year.

The logistics of this whole process is absolutely next level. But so far we have nailed the first steps and we are so, so excited to start our African adventure!
