Ooh the wadi’s of Oman… they are absolutely beautiful and amazing. Every one of them different, unique and beautiful.
A wadi is a ‘dry riverbed’. So what we learned in a week full of rain: almost everything turns in to a wadi after rain. But, some of them are special. They have water all year round and beautiful adventurous hikes and exploring you can do. To the Omani people and villages, these year round water wadis are very important. They use the ancient and genius Aflaj system to transport water to the villages and farms.
For us, they were mainly amazing for exploring. Lush green oasis, swimming and rock climbing and jumping. Of our time in Oman, all of us enjoyed the wadi adventures the most. They are absolutely worth it, all of them. In many we camped in the middle of the wadi’s, next to the water, with some goats as only visitors. These days are among our best memories so far during this trip!
We definitely have to come back someday because we still did not manage to explore all of them… there are many more beautiful ones to enjoy!
