…of showing us that the world isn’t as simple as it sometimes seems. The places we visit, the people we meet, the stories we hear — they all reveal different sides of the same reality.

And the more we see, the more questions we have.

When someone asks for our money or food, what should we do? When does helping someone becomes about easing our own conscience? How many opinions do we have about places we’ve never actually been? Why can we cross almost any border… while others can’t cross even one? What if ‘normal’ is just another word for familiair?

That’s how Beyond The Pictures began. As a place to explore those questions together. If you’ve ever found yourself thinking about a situation or conversation long after it ended, You’ll probably feel at home here.

Every question starts somewhere. A conversation with someone, a cultural difference we bumped in to
or a casual question the kids ask during dinner.

That’s where every letter from the road begins.
Not with the answer. But with the story.

They say “I would not be able to do that”. Others see something entirely different. A fully equipped house, taps with running water, free electricity, freedom, independence, richness. They say things like “If I had a truck like that, I would not need a house”.

It is the same truck, the same life, but seen from different realities, different normals.

Beyond the Pictures isn’t just a place to read. It’s a place to meet.

Conversations feel different when you know there’s a real person on the other side. That’s why we
invite every new member to introduce themselves.

Share as much or as little as you like.
(although if you do want to include your most questionable travel habit, weird talent, or the
strangest thing you’ve ever eaten, we’d love to hear it.)

Discovering the world is not only about seeing new places
It’s also about discovering new perspectives

And sometimes, it al starts with a letter
