Disassemble and prepare
Finally! After months of searching, Douwe went to Bremen, Germany to take a look at a truck that ticks of all of our boxes. And at the end of the day he drove it home! Thats where our next chapter starts, in October 2023.
We start with the big job of disassambling the back part of the truck. Everything that can be detached, we detache. The fun part is that the kids can help a lot. Slowly the collection screws, bolts and random iron parts grows and the truck seems so look smaller. Some parts we safe to re-use when we start building again. The biggest challenge is to take out the water tank – that one is defenitly securely fastened! In the end we are very happy with the forklift that is available.

What is left is a very bald looking truck. We can prepare this whole part now for the new living box that will eventually be build on the back. Cleaning the chassis, fixing the exhaust, making new wheelcovers out of old material. Since we have to wait for a long time for the parts of the living box to be delivered (E.T.A. May 2024), we try to make good use of the waiting time.
We make sure the drawings of the living box are complete and detailed. We start painting the cabin already. We start collecting some other materials in an attempt to build as much as we can using second hand material. We make drawings of the water tanks and order them custom made so they will fit exactly between our chassis. We find a second fuel tank and we extend the chassis. All in all we make sure that we use the time efficiently and make sure we can move forward immediatly when the living box is finally here!
